A Guardian ad Litem is an attorney who is appointed or retained to represent the best interests of minor children involved in litigation. GAL’s are always used in dependency cases involved the removal of custody of minor children from the parent by DHR.
GAL’s are also commonly appointed or retained in divorce cases where custody is at issue. Especially in the case of young children, a GAL is needed to guarantee that the custody determination is made based on what is in the best interest of the children, NOT the parents.
All of our attorneys have been certified as Guardians Ad Litem. The certification process involves completing courses in understanding the unique role of representing the best interests of minor children. If you are involved in a custody dispute and feel that a GAL may be beneficial for your children, call one of our Birmingham Guardian ad Litem attorneys today.
